Mailing List

In the spring of 2013 WashLUG switched from using some older mailing list management software called MajorDomo to a newer mailing list management software package called GNU/Mailman.  With GNU/Mailman most list user administrative functions can be performed using a web browser interface.  The web browser interface for the WashLUG mailing list is hosted at www.washlug.org/mailman/listinfo/washlug.  It should be mostly self explanatory, however, if you want to look at the list subscriber documentation for using GNU/Mailman it is available at www.list.org/users.html.

MajorDomo and other mailing list software of similar vintage used actual email to communicate with the list software.  GNU/Mailman also supports this scheme as well for compatibility and convenience.  So for example to join the WashLUG mailing list via email rather than using the web interface you can send an email to washlug-join@washlug.org from a mail program which sends mail from the address you want to subscribe.  The subject and body of the email are ignored.

Either way once you are subscribed, you can then post messages to the list by addressing them to washlug@washlug.org.  Only list members can send mail to this email address, mail from any other address will be rejected.

The one thing that it appears that you cannot do from the GNU/Mailman web interface is contact the list owner.  If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing or have questions about the list itself) send email to washlug-owner@washlug.org.  This is the general rule for most mailing lists when you need to contact a human.

If you want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can use the user mailing list administration web page or you can simply send an email to washlug-leave@washlug.org.  Again, for this case the subject and body of the email are ignored.

There used to be a threaded archive of the LUG’s Mailing List, we are trying very hard to acquire a backup of that data so that the archive can be restored.
